i've read harry potter...

and i did so in 7 hours, from 10pm to 5am.

heh.

the thing was, it was a hard book to put down. there were numerous times that i would tell myself, "ok, just one more chapter after this"... and the next thing i knew, i was halfway thru... and i couldn't stop... i just had to find out what was next... and then, i finished it.

aaah, but what a book it was. book3 was my fave, with 6 a close second, but THIS... the seventh was GOOD. the dialogue was witty. the twists on certain characters -- good or bad or in between -- always had me flipping back to previous pages. the moods and expressions the book made me experience were delightfully various, varying in disbelief, several shakes of the head, the "O" face, bittersweet sighs... aaah, it was so much to take in, but i was hungry for more! i devoured those pages!!!!! and yes, there would be times JKR would "over-describe", but these were rare and in between occasions. finally, at the very end, when i've finally read the last sentence, and closed the book, there was this feeling of content... something had come full circle...

there, i didn't say any spoilers, now did i? :) i will say this, though. JKR provided a LOT of answers on this one, yet she did so with writing that was smooth and rich in humor and love. it was only natural, of course, since the world of harry potter was her baby, after all.

another spoiler. the book also touches a bit on myth, on childhood stories. and this is what harry potter ultimately is. it's the new children's book, a wonderful walkthrough in a world that never was, yet everyone who've read it would attest to wanting to be immersed, be part in it, if only for a moment. in the same way little girls have dreamed of becoming princesses, there are some that dreamed of weilding his or her own unique wands, of riding broomsticks and catching the elusive Snitch...

----

aaah, i think i made a nice farewell to HP, donchatink? if you haven't read HP7, i suggest you go buy one now. but plan on reading it on a day when you are free with nothing much to do. if you haven't read HP at all.. er.. you have to buy the whole collection to appreciate HP7. no pressure :)

that being said, i will miss harry potter. i will miss it as much as i miss the fiction books i have back at home (in the philippines). i say this because i will miss holding these books in my hand... it will be a long time before i can have the relaxed pleasure of doing so and of coming back to them again and again (til you see the pages' ends becoming yellow, the covers becoming worn...).

soon i will be drowning myself in nursing books. in a few weeks, THEY will be my ONLY library.

i see you shaking your head. yes, such is my sentiment over books (and manga). of course, i'm notorious in my family for being a bookworm. i told my bro n sis before that when i get a house, i want some space for a library... and they went "library?!?!".

but like i mentioned before, i like feeling them with my hands. i like poring over the words, letting them flow through me and in my head. it helps when the cover is the original, too, because it helps evoke the emotion and the image i'm conjuring in my head.

can you imagine collecting harry potter books with THIS on the cover?

ugh.

i bet it MIGHT turn out that way when all 7 HP films will be released. i can see it now, daniel radcliffe fanatics would have a fit trying to buy the limited MOVIE cover editions... yaaaaaackieee. hollywood has such a way of DESTROYING a sentimental mood/value of a book, such as when memoirs of a geisha (zhang ziyi) and LOTR (elijah wood, orlando bloom) came out. of course, i don't MIND orlando bloom (hehe), but overall, i'd STILL prefer a celebrity-less influenced cover.

(i didn't have a choice with my current LOTR books. unfortunately, my covers WERE the movie version. when i find the time n money, i'll rebuy LOTR books. the older looking, the better).

that being said, i don't know if i'm gonna buy my OWN HP books (hardbound!!!). i want them, of course. but it'd be weird having identical sets in my family. for the time being, i'll let my sister (or brother. the books are divided between them) have boasting claims over them.

something tells me i'm gonna get them eventually, anyway :)

waaaaaaah... i remember lending some of my books that i haven't gotten back yet.. "the notebook" (by nicholas sparks! and i saw it at a thrift store, too!!! gemarie!!!!!!), "confessions of a shopaholic" (alonaaaaaaa!!! u won't admit that you borrowed it from me!!!!), and "the hiding place" (corrie ten boom.. i think i lent this to pats.. it was my grandma's gift for me!!)...

gaaaah.. visions of books, dancing in my head....
